Re: OT Klipsch
Had AB displayed a set of 901's we would have had to drum him out.
Just my 02 here. But, if i were stranded on an island and had to pick one pair of speakers to spend the rest of my life with, 901's would be many many entries above anything from the Klipsch heritage line.
For my ears and musical tastes the heritage Klipsch and their patent "cupped hands" vocal reproduction is almost instantaneously fatiguing. Then there's that "thing" they call a tweeter..................
Cornwalls are the only model that deliver anything resembling natural bass, and that i could listen to for any length of time. I expect that with some updating/mods they can be quite satisfying, until we add the sum of the parts to a low tech butt jointed plywood cab, and compare that sum to the MSRP that has historically been many times what it "should" be.
OTOH, properly set up(i consider proper amplification to be part of "set up") and EQ'd 901's can keep me listening for a good while. What they do(dynamics, vocals, and a much larger soundstage than one would expect for their physical size), they do well. Of course i miss the extension at both ends of the spectrum, but that is to be expected. But, i must emphasize, the key to making or breaking the 901's presentation is in the set up. It can be an amazing little speaker.
All that said, i'm most likely to stick with loudspeakers produced by companies who actually R&D, engineer, produce, and market transducers as well as completed speaker systems. Not unlike many other speaker manufacturers, PWK's engineering took place as much in the accounting office as it did on the drafting board or test bench. While he does boast some cabinet designs that are innovative and unique, most of his efforts are assemblages of cheap drivers and plywood with high efficiency appearing to be the chief design goal of the heritage systems.
Just my .02................ sometimes a grain of salt helps
